Geography

Geographical Location

The climatic health resort of Höchenschwand located in the southern Black Forest on the B 500 about 20 km north of the county town of Waldshut -Tiengen on a slightly inclined to the south plateau in the Black Forest Nature Park. For the former municipality Amrigschwand the villages Amrigschwand, Attlisberg, Ellmenegg, Segalen and Strittberg, the homestead Leinegg include ( Scheuerhof ) and the houses of stone Reusche. Of Höchenschwand within the boundaries of the municipality before the reform of the 1970s, part of the village Höchenschwand. For the former municipality Tiefenhäusern includes the villages of low houses, Frohnschwand, Heppenschwand, Oberweschnegg and Unterweschnegg.

History

Höchenschwand was first documented in 1173. Already at this time the village belonged to the monastery of St. Blaise and remained in its possession until the secularization of 1806. Since Höchenschwand belongs to Baden.

2600 feet east of Höchenschwand are still traces of an early tower castle, the castle Tombrugg to see.

On 1 July 1971 Tiefenhäusern was incorporated. The incorporation of Amrigschwand place on 1 October 1974.
