Holm Hansen Munthe

Holm Hansen Munthe ( born January 1, 1848 in rod, † May 23 1898 in Christiania ) was a Norwegian architect, who was instrumental in the development of the Norwegian dragon style.

Life

Holm Hansen Munthe, the son of Premier Lieutenant (later Major-General and Minister ) Adolph Fredrik Munthe ( 1817-1884 ) and Emilie Karen, nee Hansen ( 1820-1884 ), he began studying in Christiania in a native of Germany architect Wilhelm von Hanno. Like many of his compatriots, who trained as an architect or engineer, he then went to Germany and studied from 1872 at the Polytechnic of Hanover with Conrad Wilhelm Hase. As his assistant he was involved in Hildesheim in public buildings and worked subsequently in the municipal administration. Munthe 1877 returned back to Norway and led together with Henrik Nissen ( 1848-1915 ), an architect's office.

For the Norwegian industrial and art exhibition in 1883 he created the " Association Saugbrugs portal " his first work in the Norwegian dragon style, now known as " Oscar II Portal" in the Norwegian Folk Museum stands on the Oslo Bygdøy peninsula. In collaboration with Henrik Nissen originated in Christiania between 1881 and 1883 a block house with rooms, board rooms and a swimming complex for lung patients, the Larvik bath Kurhus above Koldtvandsanstalt, 1883 Christiania trade school, Munch Gate 4 and 1884, the Otto Andersen School, Uranienborgveien 7. Together with the Norwegian art and literary historians Lorentz Dietrichson Munter published in 1893 in Berlin, some exported to Norway and Germany buildings under the title " The Wooden Architecture of Norway, past and present ." He was a member and later chairman of the Norwegian Engineers and Architects Association and board member of the Norwegian Museum of Architecture. In 1898 he received his death in Christiania was appointed city architect. Performance

Family

Holm Hansen Munthe married in 1888 Inger Marie Nicoline Munthe ( 1864-1889 ), physician Christopher Munthe Pavel's daughter. He was related by marriage to the publisher of the daily newspaper " Aftenposten ", Amandus Schibsted (1849-1913), the landscape painter and art writer Gerhard Munthe (1849-1929) as well as the teacher, writer and children's book author Margrethe Munthe.
