Hugh IV, Duke of Burgundy

Hugo IV ( born March 9, 1212 Villa Ines -en- Duesmois, † October 27, 1272 ) was Duke of Burgundy ( 1218-1272 ), and titular King of the short-lived Latin Kingdom of Thessaloniki ( 1266-1272 ).

Life

He was the son of the Duke Odo III. of Burgundy and Alix of Vergy.

He divided the existing Duchy of Burgundy, the counties Grignon ( the former Auxois ) and Chalon -in. Further included the Charolais and the Terre d' Auxonne, which was acquired by the Duke in exchange for the 1225 selling rule Salins to Chalon. Together with his son Robert II brought Hugo the left bank of the Saône under Burgundian control and also prepared the incorporation of the Free County of Burgundy.

Between 1239 and 1241 Hugo went for the first time on a Crusade ( Crusade of the barons ).
