Santa Fe ( SM type, 2000-2006)

Hyundai Santa Fe (2000-2004)

With the introduction of the Hyundai Santa Fe in March 2001, the Korean automaker for the first time tried to break into the field of " sporting purpose vehicles " (SUVs ) foot. But this was not successful really, possibly due to the time of his or unusual body design. Quite different in the U.S., where demand for the Hyundai Santa Fe was especially great just because of its design, so that it became a bestseller of Hyundai 's lineup immediately and it came to long delivery times. Especially the model Santa Fe was on the American market helps us to enforce the brand. In Russia, the Santa Fe has been produced since 2005 by the Taganrog Awtomobilny Zavod.

Since 2007, the model now there carries the model name Santa Fe Classic. In mainland China, the Santa Fe will also continue to be assembled and is marketed under the brand name of Beijing- Hyundai. In parallel, there is also a cheaper version since 2008 under the name Hawtai Santa Fe. A special sports version is under the Haw Tai trademarks of C9 which draws attention to itself with an aggressive styling and is available with outputs of 118 and 215 hp.

Technology

Standard had all Santa Fe models of the first generation, except for the variant with the 2.7 -liter V6 engine, front-wheel drive (2WD -Two - Wheel -Drive ). For an extra charge (4WD) was available for all engine variants wheel drive.

The all-wheel drive was until the end of 2005 a purely mechanically controlled system. A viscous coupling distributed depending on the slip the drive forces between the front (VA) and rear axle ( HA). Standard 60 % VA were 40 % HA, at slip up. 10% VA and 90 % HA. In place of the viscous coupling used came from the Facelift 2005 ( the diesel VGT, 2006 with a gasoline engine ), an electronically controlled system with solenoid-operated multi-plate clutch ( "Interactive Torque Management" ). This was ( depending on the market ) a variable power distribution for each wheel possible in combination with the anti- slip control. When driving on the road, the system directs the entire driving force to the front wheels. Only in the case of rotating the front wheels, the rear wheels are supplied with driving power.

Traction control was depending on the market available for different engine variants. An ESP was never offered, ABS was, however, in most European countries series.

Had all models with ABS on all wheels disc brakes (front ventilated ), the non-ABS on the rear axle drum brakes.

Off-road capabilities

Security

In the basic version only two front airbags were available in models in Europe. Depending on country, engine and equipment varied these requirements. So, for example, in Switzerland for a long time only the 2.7 -liter V6 petrol engine with four-wheel drive and front and side airbags for driver and front passenger available ( supplemented in 2004 with the 145 -horsepower diesel engine).

However, the Hyundai Santa Fe scored in one carried out in 2002 Euro NCAP crash test 16 out of 18 possible points during a side impact in the tested version without side airbags. In a frontal impact test, the Santa Fe reached 9 of 16 points, pedestrian safety, however, was with one of four stars out bad. Nevertheless, the result was above that of the successor model ( with zero stars ).

Facelift

In November 2004, minor and major changes were made to the Santa Fe as part of a facelift. So the Santa Fe received a new wheel drive system, the new VTG diesel engine, new taillights, revised bumpers, a fitted with cross bars and grille detail revisions in the interior (including a revised instrument panel).
