The Ibrox Stadium (until 1997 Ibrox Park ) is a football stadium in Glasgow, Scotland. It is the home of Glasgow Rangers and one of the stages, which by UEFA five stars were awarded. It currently holds 51 082 spectators. Is named the stadium after Glasgow's Ibrox in which it is located.

History

The Ibrox Park had in the first game of the Rangers on the sport court on April 20, 1887 15,000 seats. In 1899 it was moved to its present location. First you had there space for 75,000 spectators, after they had invested 200,000 pounds, but when 26 people in 1902, dying in a tragedy, it lowered the number of spectators to 25,000. Then, after a design by Archibald Leitch of Ibrox Park in an oval stadium for 63,000 visitors was converted. The capacity was increased after the First World War to 80,000. At this time, however, were not uncommon 120,000 people in the stadium, and this led to other accidents in the years 1961 and 1971 in which 66 people ( Ibrox disaster ) died and 145 were injured. Because of the number of spectators was reduced to 65,000.

After 1971, the renovation of the entire stadium was decided in 1981 and you got the best master plans in Britain. From the oval shape was the typical British square design. This cost tens of millions of British pounds, and in the next decade, 53 million were sent to the modernization, bringing the total number of audience of 50 467 came about. The name of the stadium is since 1997 no longer " Ibrox " but " Ibrox Stadium ".
