The City Ground is a football stadium in West Bridgford, Nottinghamshire, England. It is since 1898 the home of the club Nottingham Forest and has 30 576 spectators.

History

The stadium is located on the south bank of the River Trent - only about 300 meters from the Stadium Meadow Lane of local rivals Notts County on the opposite northern bank. On October 12, 1957 47 804 spectators saw the inaugural game of the new East Stand against the Busby Babes of Manchester United, this is still the record number of visitors to the stadium.

1980 was built for about £ 2 million of executive level which had a capacity of 10,000 seats. Nottingham Forest had been able to make this investment because of the great international successes during this time. After a recent renovation, the grandstand was after the end of the 18 - year coaching activities of Brian Clough, renamed in his honor in The Brian Clough Stand. In the 1992/93 season the Bridgford Stand was rebuilt and then had 7,710 seats. In preparation for the European Football Championship in 1996 and then the Tribune The Trent End was rebuilt and rounded with 7,338 seats total capacity to 30 576 places from.

Nottingham was then one of eight venues for the 1996 European Championship in England. In the preliminary round Group D at the City Ground Turkey found the games against Croatia (0-1 ), Portugal against Turkey ( 1-0) and Croatia against Portugal (0:3) instead.

Future Plans

In June 2007, became public that the club plans to build a new football stadium and thus a replacement for the City Ground Stadium. As opening time of 2014 was specified. The new arena will provide the viewers with a capacity 45000-50000 seats available and would be significantly larger than the previous stadium. A former survey among fans of the club revealed that a majority decided in the naming for " Brian Clough Arena ". Since England did not get the contract for the Football World Cup in 2018, now a reconstruction of the City Ground is considered to be the most likely solution.
