The Stadio Comunale Luigi Ferraris (also known as " Marassi " ) is a football stadium in Genoa, Italy. It is one of the few pure football stadiums without track and field facility in Italy. Currently it is the home of two football clubs Sampdoria and Genoa. The current capacity is 36 599 spectators.

History

The stadium was inaugurated on 22 January 1911, a football match between Genoa in 1893, where it was initially, and Inter Milan, which took place in front of about 20,000 spectators. It was christened the Stadio Marassi, as it is located in the homonymous district of Genoa.

Received its current name the stadium on January 1, 1933 the former captain of the football team of Genoa in 1893, Luigi Ferraris. The Stadio Luigi Ferraris was considered at the time as one of the most modern stadiums in general, and provided space for 30,000 visitors. It was also a venue for the World Cup in 1934 and was home on May 27, a second-round match.

In 1946, the Genoa sold in 1893 the arena to the city of Genoa. After that, it was also the home of local rivals Sampdoria.

On 27 February 1949, the still existing record attendance of 60,000 was achieved in a game between the national teams of Italy and Portugal.

Between July 1987 and September 1989, the Luigi Ferraris was the occasion of the Football World Cup 1990 completely demolished during running game operation and newly built. The most striking feature of the sports facility are the four towers in the corners of the stadium. On the one hand they support the roof structure; secondly, the floodlighting is integrated in them. They also share the stands from four individual areas.
