Ice Hockey European Championship 1910

The first Ice Hockey Championship was the first official international tournament for national teams at all. The European continental championship to be held annually in future.

The EM tournament was held from 10 to 12 January 1910 in Montreux, Switzerland. Venue was a frozen lake on the outskirts of Montreux.

Ahead of the European Championships, there was a fierce dispute over the competition format ( American system, so everyone against everyone, or KO ), which meant that France did not participate in the tournament. Thus, four teams played for the European title and indeed according to the American system. Addition to the host, Switzerland, to Germany, Belgium and the UK participating in this tournament. Germany and the UK could be at this tournament by their best club teams represented (Berliner SC and Prince's Club London ), while Belgium and Switzerland with representative teams ( in Switzerland but only player of French clubs ) competed. Out of competition still took a selection of Canadian students from Oxford part in the tournament, although the British did not competed against this team. A special feature of this tournament was that a team sometimes had to deliver two games per day.
