Instant messaging#Interoperability
A multi- protocol client, also Multi Messenger is a software that supports multiple instant messaging protocols. In contrast to the original programs of the provider (for example, ICQ, AIM, Windows Live Messenger, Yahoo Messenger, etc. ) that allow only connections to their own networks, multi-protocol clients offer the option of several protocols with a single to use program.
Since some protocols were not disclosed by the network operators and the programs have not specialized in a protocol where the available features ( voice chat, avatars, chat rooms, file transfers, etc. ) are not always fully supported. It is also possible that, for a change of one of the supported proprietary protocols - up to an update of the program - not connect to the instant messaging network, is possible.
