Issues (English for " problems " ) is the fourth studio album by the American nu-metal band Korn. It was released on 16 November 1999 at Immortal and Epic and was produced by Brendan O'Brien ( Pearl Jam, among others ). It reached triple platinum in the U.S. and sold worldwide to date more than 11 million times.

Background

At the time of publication of the Issues Nu Metal was on the rise and about with Limp Bizkit played other bands successful this style. Already at the Festival Woodstock III in the summer of 1999 were still playing songs from the upcoming album Korn Issues, but then under a different name and with unfinished lyrics. Overall, the songs are less influenced by hip hop than the previous album. The album has some shorter cutscenes and begins with a bagpipe intro, in which grain - singer Jonathan Davis, the words " All I want in life is to be happy" sings. This is in contrast to the psychological situation Davis, who went back during the formation of the " happiness drug" Prozac. In the magazine, Visions, the plate was also referred to as " a journey into the devastated landscape of the soul frontman " Davis.

Then the first single Falling Away From Me in an episode of South Park, titled Korn 's Groovy Pirate Ghost Mystery was presented on 27 October 1999, the band was integrated in cartoon form in the episode. The album was presented to the theater one day before the publication in the historic New York's Apollo. Until the year 2000 into the band toured for the album, with drummer David Silveria had to be temporarily replaced due to an injury from Mike Bordin of Faith No More. In summer 2000, the band played with Metallica, Kid Rock, Powerman 5000, and System of a Down.

Again, the album reached number one on the Billboard 200, as it was in Australia at the top chart.

Shaping

For the album cover an MTV competition was announced. The winning design was created by Alfredo Carlos, but also places two to four have been published. Fifth appeared as a limited Special Edition in small numbers.

In Visions magazine Maik Coulter has referred to the choice of the producer O'Brien as real " stroke of luck " and the album as a " masterpiece": "Was Follow the Leader already a soaring ribbon, which seemed hard to top, it seems the atmospheric density of this album the predecessor to leave almost fade.
