János Martonyi

János Martonyi ( born April 5, 1944 in Kolozsvár / Cluj, Transylvania ) is a Hungarian lawyer and politician of the conservative party Fidesz. He is in second term since May 29, 2010 Foreign Minister of Hungary. His first term was 1998 to 2002.

Martonyi closed in 1967 to be Studied law with the Hungarian law diploma and worked as a lawyer and later as a commercial secretary at the Hungarian Embassy in Belgium. Since the 1980s, he taught at various universities in Budapest and European law. Between his tenures as foreign minister, he was also a partner at Baker & McKenzie in Budapest.

1964 to 1968 he wrote during study trips to Western Europe regularly reports for the secret police.

In 1988, he joined shortly before the collapse of the Eastern Bloc in the Hungarian Communist Party MSZMP. During the transition, he was commissioner of the communist government for the privatization and later its vice foreign minister.

Since 2003 he is member of the Fidesz party.
