Jean-Philippe Roy

Jean -Philippe Roy (born 18 February 1979 in Rimouski ) is a former Canadian alpine skier. He initially specialized in the technical disciplines of slalom and giant slalom and started after several injuries from 2010 to his retirement only in the giant slalom.

Biography

Roy took in December 1994 for the first time participate in FIS races, bets in Nor -Am Cup followed in March 1996. Without having previously denied a World Cup race, he took part in the 1999 World Cup and reached the 30th place in the giant slalom. At the Junior World Cup in the same year he was fifth in this discipline. The first World Cup race was followed on October 31, 1999 in Tignes. To kick off the 2000/01 season he won as the 27th of the giant slalom in Soelden, the first World Cup points. In the same season he finished second in the overall standings of the Nor- Am Cup, plus he won the giant slalom standings.

In December 2001, Roy met in the slalom in Kranjska Gora in the top ten for the first time before a World Cup competition. At the 2001 World Championships and at the Olympic Games 2002, he was in the combination of each roller. Because of a thumb and wrist fracture he missed almost the entire 2002/03 season. On December 19, 2004 Roy achieved his best World Cup result, when he was fifth in the giant slalom on the Gran Risa in Alta Badia. In the Giant Slalom World Cup in Bormio in 2005, he was after the first run in third place, but fell in the second run and pulled to serious knee injuries.

After his second comeback in late 2005 Roy could not connect to its previous performance for a long time. So he could be in the World Cup season 2006/ 07 qualify never once for a second pass. The following season was similar, but on January 5, 2008, he succeeded to the ninth place in the giant slalom in Adelboden again a very good result. In the 2008 /09 season he took in the World Cup giant slalom in part only, regularly drove back into the points and reached its best result seventh place in Kranjska Gora. The 2009/10 season began Roy with a ninth place in the giant slalom in Soelden. On 13 December 2009 he suffered in the giant slalom in Val d'Isere a torn ACL in his right knee, followed by the 2009/10 season was over for him. Due to a recent injury had Roy, who now only focused on the giant slalom, the 2010/11 season prematurely in January. In the winter of 2011/12 was Roy's best World Cup result of 13th place in the giant slalom in Beaver Creek.
