2009 Alpine Skiing World Cup

The season 2008/2009 the FIS Alpine World Cup, organized by the started 25 October 2008 in Sölden and ended on 15 March 2009 on the occasion of the World Cup finals in Åre.

In the men's 36 races were planned (9 runs, 6 Super -G, Giant Slalom 8, 10 slalom, 3 Super- combinations ); but also with a classic combination rating. A super -G could not be discharged. In the women's race 35 (8 runs, 7 Super -G, Giant Slalom 8, 9 slalom, 3 Super- combinations ) should be discharged. A descent was deleted. The end of the season formed a joint team competition.

The overall World Cup the men was in the last race, the slalom at Åre, decided: Benjamin Raich had before the race, two points behind Aksel Lund Svindal and would only be faster than the Norwegians in the final slalom and must finish among the top 15 when Svindal at least 2 places would have been classified behind him, or the first nine when Svindal had landed directly behind him. However, since Raich was eliminated in the first round with start number 1, Svindal was from this moment as the World Cup winner has been determined: Since he retired in the first round, it remained at the extremely narrow margin of 2 points; the second had thus reached 99.80 % of the points of the winner.

The highlight of the season was the World Ski Championships, which took place from 3 to 15 February 2009 at the French Val d'Isere.
