Johann Grugger

Johann " Hans " Grugger ( born December 13, 1981 in Bad Hofgastein ) is a former Austrian alpine skier. In 2001 he became junior vice- world champion in giant slalom and launched from 2003 to 2011 in the Ski World Cup, where he won four races. His career was repeatedly interrupted by injury.

Career

Grugger began at the age of three years with the skiing. In 1996 he was Executive Member of the Salzburger Land Ski and took in November of the same year for the first time participate in FIS races. Even in adolescence interrupted several injuries his career, in 1998 he suffered the first torn ACL. 1999 Grugger was included in the junior squad of the Austrian Ski Federation, but by a cervical vertebrae injury he had to pause for a long time back in 2000. In 2001, the Salzburg participated in the Junior World Championships in Verbier and celebrated with the second place in the giant slalom behind compatriot Hannes rider the first major success. A short time later, he won in Megeve three FIS races in series.

As of the 2001 /02 season Grugger also get good rankings in the European Cup and he became a Downhill and Super -G specialists. In February 2002, he drove in the departure of Tarvis for the first time among the top three. He was able to increase in the 2002/03 season and reached with his two victories at the season finale in Piancavallo third place in the downhill standings, fourth in the super -G and seventh place in the overall standings.

After his good performances European Cup Grugger started from the 2003/04 season in the World Cup. He made ​​his debut on November 29 in the departure of Lake Louise and immediately reached the seventh place. At the beginning of the next winter Grugger reached the fourth place in the departure of Lake Louise. In January 2009, Grugger wanted to compete in the European Cup downhill in Wengen, to prepare for a week later held World Cup races. On November 28, 2009 Grugger was after two years of racing his comeback in the World Cup downhill of Lake Louise. The best result was a fifth place at the World Cup finals in Garmisch -Partenkirchen. At the Olympic Winter Games in Vancouver in 2010, he was ranked 22 in the downhill. In the first half of the season 2010/11 Grugger placed in three World Cup downhill among the fastest 20 before he again seriously injured in downhill training on the Kitzbühel Streif on 20 January 2011. During a fall in the mousetrap, he moved next to a lung injury a serious craniocerebral trauma. After a month in the intensive care of neurosurgical university clinic in Innsbruck, he was transferred to rehabilitation in the country Hochzirl and dismissed from there on March 18.
