Josmer " Jozy " Altidore Volmy ( born November 6, 1989 in Livingston, New Jersey) is an American football player. The striker has been playing in July 2013 for the English first division club Sunderland AFC.

Career

Youth

Altidore was born in Livingston, New Jersey. He spent most of his youth in Boca Raton, Florida where he attended Boca Prep International School, he was active in his school team. His parents, Joseph and Giselle, are from Haiti. Besides school, he was still active in the local football teams GBYSA and Boca Juniors Soccer Club.

While still at school he joined because of its above-average talent in the Under-17 development program of the USSF, which he completed at the IMG Soccer Academy in Bradenton, Florida.

New York Red Bulls

In MLS SuperDraft 2006, he was selected by the New York Red Bulls as the 17th pick. His first season Altidore spent mostly in Florida to complete his high school graduation.
