Jürgen Ahrend

Jürgen Ahrend organ building is an organ builder in Leer - Loga, Ostfriesland. She gained world fame through the restoration of baroque organs, including the Arp Schnitger organ of St. Jacobi Church in Hamburg, the Martinikerk in Groningen (NL ) and the Ludgerikirche in the north and the Ebert organ of the Hofkirche Innsbruck. It was founded by Jürgen Ahrend ( born April 28, 1930 in Hagen Trust in Göttingen).

History

Jürgen Ahrend was born in 1930 as son of Heinrich Ahrend, who had studied music, was a singer and choir director and played various keys and string instruments. In his first marriage Jürgen Ahrend was married to Margaret Bolt born Bartels, the later the Dutch organist Klaas Bolt married. His second wife's name is Ruth. Of the five children are Sievert and Heiko Ahrend musicians, composers and music producers.

Jürgen Ahrend learned from 1945 with Paul Ott in Göttingen his trade and founded the age of 24, together with Gerhard Brunzema ( 1927-1992 ) the company Ahrend & Brunzema ( 1954-1971 ) in Leer - Loga. The first work of this cooperative was the restoration of the organ of the Reformed Church in Larrelt. Worldwide attention was attracted the restoration of the historic, again mean- tuned organs in Westerhusen, Uttum and Rysum in Krummhoern, which ushered in a return to the traditional craft techniques and music sound aesthetic ideals. The location of the workshop in the middle of the organ Ostfriesland landscape with its many original instruments had sufficient opportunity to deal with the nature of these organs. Ahrend and Brunzema received the 1962 Lower Saxony State Prize for the arts and crafts. By 1971, the catalog of common verfertigten or restored works includes 74 instruments. This year Brunzema left the company in order to settle in Canada, where in 1980 he set up his practice and died in 1992.

From 1972 to 2004 Mr. Ahrend and his staff have built, reconstructed or restored 90 more plants. Jürgen Ahrend earned its reputation as one of the leading organ builders and restorers, due to its systematic restoration practice and high voicing. On 21 May 1986 Jürgen Ahrend received the Lower Price of Culture and on 5 May 2007 Buxtehude Award of the city of Lübeck. An honorary doctorate ( Dr. iur. Hc ) was awarded to him on 19 April 2000 by the Monash University, Victoria ( Australia).

Hendrik Ahrend ( born August 11, 1963) was after graduation in 1983 employees in the family business. After the organ-building apprenticeship with John Rohlf in Neubulach (1984-1987) and the Civil Service (1987 /88) re participation in the Father ( 1988/89 and 1996-2000) operation, interrupted by a study of American Studies and Sports Science ( 1989-1995 ). Since 1998 his work has been transferred to an increasing extent. So he took over in 1998, the intonation of the flue pipes of the organ in Dornum and in 2002 led the planning of the organ of the Lutheran Church in Leer extent by. Hendrik Ahrend graduated in 2000 in the master class of the School of Music for Organ Building in Ludwigsburg and deepened then 14 months at his teacher John Rohlf. Hendrik Ahrend carries on his father's tradition, but is breaking new ground by having applied the historical sand casting process for making pipes again or hot glue started to prevent lead corrosion by escaping acetic acid to the pipes. For over 30 years he played semi- professional bluegrass along with his brother Heiko, but has quite focused in recent years on the organ building.
