Kamenica, Sabinov District

Kamenica (Hungarian Tarko - older even Kamenyica ) is a town with around 1,850 inhabitants in Slovakia. It is located 4 kilometers north of the city at the foot of Lipany Čergov Mountains and belongs to the Okres Sabinov to.

The first mention of Kamenica dates from the 1275.

Attractions

To the east of the village lying on a rocky outcrop, the ruins of the castle Kamenica, which was originally called Thorku. The castle was built in 1248 by Dietrich Tarczay and was until its destruction in 1558 by imperial troops in possession of the Tarcay. Large parts of the old building was demolished in 1816 and used as building material for a distillery in the neighboring village Lúčka.
