Torysa (village)

Torysa (Hungarian Tarca ) is a municipality in eastern Slovakia with 1514 inhabitants ( 31 December 2011). It belongs to Okres Sabinov, kraj a circle of Prešov.

Geography

The municipality is situated on the upper course of the river in the northwest of the Torysa traditional landscape Saris. The center is located at an altitude of 449 m nm and is located seven kilometers from Lipany and 18 kilometers from Sabinov.

History

Torysa was first mentioned in writing in 1265 and bore the name of the river. In the Middle Ages the city was, according to the legal market a market town and seat of dominion, which included 10 surrounding towns. Because of its location on the steep river course suffered the place under numerous floods, such as that of 1813, which destroyed the church at that time and country castle. 1828 are listed 109 houses and 803 inhabitants.
