Kaspars Daugaviņš

Kaspars Daugaviņš (born 18 May 1988 in Riga, Latvian SSR) is a Latvian ice hockey player who is under contract with the Genève -Servette HC in the National League A since September 2013.

Career

Daugaviņš began his professional career in the 2003/04 season in his hometown at HK Riga 2000, by which he could win in 2004 and 2006 respectively, the Latvian championship. The season 2005/ 05 he spent at the second team of HK CSKA Moscow in the Perwaja league.

NHL Entry Draft 2006, he was selected by the Ottawa Senators in the third round at 91st position and moved to the 2006/07 season to North America, the Toronto St. Michael's Majors in the Canadian Junior Football League OHL.

Already in April 2007 Daugaviņš was in their own farm team, who play the Binghamton Senators of the American Hockey League, recalled by the Ottawa Senators from the OHL. There Daugaviņš could win a regular place at end of season. After the training camp of the Senators prior to the 2007/ 08 NHL season he was, however, sent back to his junior team in the OHL. During the following season, he received three more applications in the AHL. In the training camp of the Binghamton Senators in the summer of 2008, Daugaviņš secured a place in the AHL squad and completed by 23 games before he was sent back to his junior team, which had meanwhile moved to Mississauga. There he remained until the end of the 2008/09 season and then was selected in the first draft of the Continental Junior Hockey League in the second round, 35th Torpedo Nizhny Novgorod, which thus secured his transfer rights upon a change in the KHL.

From the summer of 2009 he was a member of the AHL squad laid the Binghamton Senators. On 14 January 2010 he made his debut for the Ottawa Senators in de National Hockey League, which defeated the New York Rangers 2-0. Internationally

At the Ice Hockey World Championship 2006 in Latvia Daugaviņš made ​​his debut at the Latvian National Team. He was the youngest player ever aground for the Latvian team at age 17. A year later, at the 2007 World Championships in Russia, Daugaviņš was the second best scorer of the Latvian national team. He was regarded at that time as one of the biggest talents in world hockey. At the Junior World Championship 2008 Division I Kaspars Daugaviņš was top scorer of the tournament and got his team back on in the A group.

2010 Daugaviņš received an invitation in the Latvian Olympic team.
