Matthew Lombardi

Matthew Lombardi ( born March 18, 1982 in Montreal, Quebec ) is a Canadian professional ice hockey player Italian - Scottish descent, who is under contract with the Genève -Servette HC in the National League A since August 2013.

Career

Matthew Lombardi began his career as a hockey player at the 1998 Victoriaville Tigres of the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League, for whom he played a total of four years. Lombardi has been selected in the NHL Entry Draft 2000 total 215 players from the Edmonton Oilers. However, since he never signed a contract with the Oilers, he was reinstated in the Entry Draft and selected in the NHL Entry Draft, 90th overall in 2002 as a player of the Calgary Flames.

In the season 2002/ 03 the attacker played exclusively for the former Calgary's farm team, the Saint John Flames of the American Hockey League. However, in the following season he was exclusively for the Calgary Flames of the National Hockey League on the ice and reached with his team the finals for the Stanley Cup. There, he lost his team the Tampa Bay Lightning. Through an elbow injury that he incurred in the playoffs, Lombardi could not play for months.

During the lockout in the 2004/ 05 NHL season Lombardi played for the then- AHL farm team of the Flames, the Lowell Lock Monsters. However, due to his injury from the previous season, he only played in nine games of the regular season and eleven playoff games. In the season 2005/ 06 Lombardi played though once again for the former farm team, the Omaha Ak -Sar - Ben Knights, but since he is continuously in the NHL squad of Flames. On 4 March 2009 he was transferred along with Brandon Prust and a Erstrundenwahlrecht in exchange for Olli Jokinen to the Phoenix Coyotes. In July 2010 he moved to the Nashville Predators, but was able to complete only two games due to a concussion.

On July 3, 2011 Lombardi was transferred to a barter along with Cody Franson in exchange for Brett Lebda and Robert Slaney in the NHL Entry Draft in 2013 to the Toronto Maple Leafs. The transfer also included a fourth- round choice right in the NHL Entry Draft in 2013, which was dependent on the number of games played Lombardi.

After completion of the NHL lockout in January 2013, the Toronto Maple Leafs gave him away in exchange for a fourth- round choice right in the NHL Entry Draft in 2014 to the Phoenix Coyotes. For the Trade Deadline on April 3, 2013, was transferred to the Anaheim Ducks.

For the 2013/14 season Lombardi signed a one-year contract with the Genève -Servette HC of the National League A.

Internationally

With Canada Lombardi won the 2007 World Championships in Moscow. During the tournament Lombardi of Canada 's most successful player was twelve scorer points, including six goals. Also in the 2009 World Cup he was in the squad of the Canadian selection that lost the final against Russia.
