In addition, front and rear, a disc brake system is used in the KMX. At the time of launch, the KMX was thus superior to the 125 competitors technically far, which is mostly built air-cooled motors without Auslassteuerung and drum brakes in their models.

In 1999, the KMX underwent a re-design, while the tank wings were left and right widened the tether away on the bench and for the porter supplemented with handles. Furthermore, were rounded the overflow and the Krallenfußrasten replaced by Gummifußrasten. Also a larger contact surface was mounted at the brake lever to the brake pedal. The KMX also received a few cosmetic changes in the cockpit.

With the model for the year 2001, the last technical changes have been made. There again the bypasses have been revised and built stronger piston rings. Each year, got the KMX a new outfit in the form of new decorations.
