History
Numerous archaeological finds that Kreuzau was inhabited in pre-Roman times. 1319, the village was first mentioned as " Auwe superior" documentary. The present name Kreuzau appeared in the 15th century. It is assumed that the name is after the church, which is dedicated to the Holy Cross, emerged.
The life story of St. Heribert, Archbishop of Cologne and patron of the Church in Kreuzau, reveals a 1,000-year history of the place. His mother is buried in the church at Kreuzau.
Incorporations
The community was Kreuzau by § 8 of the law on the restructuring of municipalities in Düren 24 June 1969 ( GV. NRW. P. 372), in the form of the merger of the former municipalities Bogheim, Boich - Lever Bach, Drove, Kreuzau, Stock Home Thum, Üdingen and winches (Official Kreuzau ) made with effect from 1 July 1969. By § 14 of the law on the restructuring of municipalities and districts of the restructuring space Aachen on 14 December 1971 ( GV. NRW. P. 411) municipalities Obermaubach impact stone and Untermaubach and a part of the community Hurtgenwald ( Langenbroich ) parts of the former township were, Lendersdorf herb Hausen ( Schneidhausen and Welk ) and faces from the former municipality Niederau incorporated with effect from 1 January 1972 in the town Kreuzau. The Office Kreuzau was dissolved. Legal successor is the community Kreuzau.

Mayor
Full-time mayor of Kreuzau since 1999 Walter Ramm ( CDU). He was from 1996 to 1999 director of community in Kreuzau. He said on October 15, 2013, that he withdraws local elections 2014
Parish council
The 34 seats ( -4) of the village council groups since the local elections on 30 August 2009 as follows on the individual parties:

Flag of the community Kreuzau
The community Kreuzau has been awarded with certificate of the Minister of the Interior of North Rhine -Westphalia on 20 April 1964, the right to bear a coat of arms, a flag and an official seal. These are described in § 2 of the main statute of the community. The coat of arms or the heraldic symbols may be used by third parties only after approval by the Council. The authorization shall be deemed revocable.
" The coat of arms shows under one with a solid golden ( yellow ) cross busy main black shield a black reinforced with a red tongue lion in gold ( yellow). "
The cross indicates the community name that is specified in a document from 1319 with " Auwe superior". Middle of the 15th century was preceded by the " Auwe " nor the name of the church dedicated to the Holy Cross. It finally came " Kreuzau ". Main component of the coat of arms is the lion that has been recreated an old aldermen seal dated 23 January 1356 which is without doubt represent the Jülich lions.
With area amendment agreement dated 12 September 1968, the former municipality Bogheim, Boich - Lever Bach, Drove, Kreuzau, Stock Home, Thum, Üdingen and winds have combined to form the new municipality Kreuzau and agreed on the coat of arms of the former municipality Kreuzau.
The flag shows a longitudinally split of black and yellow track the coat of arms of the municipality.

Culture and sights
Recreation and Sports
For recreational use of the citizens of the community is the water park monte mare available, which is equipped with numerous attractions such as wave pool and water slide.
