Kumamoto Prefecture

The Kumamoto Prefecture (熊 本 県Japanese, Kumamoto - ken) is a prefecture of Japan. It is located in the region of Kyushu on the island of Kyushu. Seat of the prefectural government is the city of Kumamoto.

Governor of Kumamoto is since 2008 the political scientist Ikuo Kabashima, who was re- elected at the gubernatorial election in March 2012 for a second term. In parliament, with 49 regular members from previously 22 constituencies the Liberal Democratic Party won an absolute majority in the regional elections in April 2011. After collecting the prefectural capital Kumamoto major city by decree in April 2012, the date by far the largest constituency Kumamoto City, where 16 deputies were elected, divided into five constituencies that meet the new districts and choose between two and four deputies.

In the national parliament Kumamoto is represented by five directly elected representatives in the House of Representatives, according to the last election in 2012 four Liberal Democrats and Hiroyuki Sonoda for the Nippon Ishin no Kai.
