L'Écouvotte

L' Écouvotte is a commune in the French department Doubs in the Franche -Comté.

Geography

L' Écouvotte is located on 335 m, 8 km west of Baume- les -Dames and about 21 km northeast of the city of Besançon (air line). The village is located in the rolling countryside between the river valleys of Doubs and Ognon, on the southeastern edge of a large basin at the foot of the forest height Pinfou.

The area of ​​2.16 km ² municipal area includes a portion in the extreme north- western ridges of the Jura. The central part of the area is occupied by a trough, which is on average 320 m and opens to the west into a wide basin. It is mainly passed with arable and meadow land. This trough is flanked to the north of the hill of Bois du Chanoi. To the south, the municipality's area extends down to the woods back of the Bois du Pinfou, on the 383 m, the highest elevation of L' Écouvotte is achieved. In the whole area there are no surface watercourses, because the rainwater seeps into the karst underground.

Neighboring communities of L' Écouvotte are Le Puy and Val -de- Roulans in the north, the east, and Breconchaux Saint- Hilaire in the south.

Population

With 106 inhabitants (as of 1 January 2011) L' Écouvotte is one of the smallest municipalities of the department of Doubs. After the population had decreased significantly in the first half of the 20th century (1901 72 people were still counted ), a population growth was recorded since the mid-1970s again. Since then the population has quadrupled.

Economy and infrastructure

L' Écouvotte was until well into the 20th century a predominantly by agriculture (crops, orchards and livestock ) and forestry embossed village. Even today, the inhabitants live on the merits of the activity in the first sector. Outside of the primary sector, there are few jobs in the village. Some employed persons are also commuters who engage in the surrounding larger towns of their work.

The village is located off the major thoroughfares on a secondary road that leads from Pouligney after Séchin. The nearest links to the A36 motorway, which crosses the municipality, is located at a distance of about 11 km. Another road connection with Le Puy.
