Laitila

Laitila [ lɑi̯tilɑ ] (Swedish: Letala ) is a city in south-western Finland with 8462 inhabitants ( 31 December 2012). It is located in the region Vakka -Suomi in the northwest of the landscape Varsinais -Suomi, about 18 kilometers northeast of Uusikaupunki. The city of Rauma is located 30 kilometers north, 60 kilometers south of Turku. Laitila is located on State Road 8 ( road number 8 ) from Turku to Oulu.

Laitila was already inhabited in prehistoric times. Within the town numerous archaeological finds were made, the oldest glass object found in Finland, a drinking horn from the Roman period, and a Iron Age warrior 's grave. The St. Michael's Church in the center of Laitila dates from the period 1460-1483. Pertteli in the village in the city of Laitila a church dedicated to Saint Bartholomew is from the 18th century on the site of an older previous building, which the Holy Henry of Uppsala is said to have initiated. The village church of Untamala ( 1785), located on the site of a medieval church. The community was founded in 1868 Laitila, since 1986 Laitila is a city.
