Lieto

Lieto [ Lieto ] ( swedish Lundo ) is a municipality in southwestern Finland. The population is 17,022 (as of 31 December 2012). The Kirchdorf, the capital of the municipality, located 12 kilometers northeast of the fifth largest Finnish city of Turku. History

The first mention Lietos goes back to the year 1331, when the vicar Peter is named in a dispute over fur taxes as a witness. The Church of Lieto was built in the late 15th century. Apart from agriculture, a small fulling mill was erected in 1738, which was later used for fabric production. During this time, numerous craftsmen moved from the growing city of Turku to the surrounding area and settled among other things, in Lieto. It was not until the late 19th century until the mill prospered properly and was under the direction of Louis cut to one of Finland's leading fabric manufacturers. 1867, the ecclesiastical administration was separated from the municipal under the rule of Russia in Lieto. Sports

1975 took place in Lieto the Nordic Junior World Ski Championships held at the ski jump Parma.
