Lanao del Norte

Lanao del Norte is a province of the Philippines in the northwest of the island of Mindanao. Lanao del Norte is part of the district X Northern Mindanao

The capital is located in the northwest of the province Tubod.

The governor of the province is called Mohammad Khalid Q. Dimaporo.

Geography

The province is bordered on the south by the province of Lanao del Sur, on the west by Zamboanga del Sur, on the northeast by Misamis Oriental and on the east by the province of Bukidnon. Climate

History

The name Lanao is derived from the word Ranao from the Maranao dialect, which means lake inhabitants. This was originally part of Lanao del Norte, together with a large province of Lanao.

The Malay- Arabic tribe of the Marano settled from the south in the area long before the arrival of the Spaniards. Also, all violent attempts at expulsion of Muslims and sustainable colonization of the area were not successful, the Spanish colonial powers.

On July 4, 1959, divided into the provinces of Lanao del Norte and Lanao del Sur to the Republic Act No 2228, the former province of Lanao. At this time, Iligan City became the capital of Lanao del Norte.

On 24 June 1982, the seat of the provincial government was transferred to the management of community Tubod which holds the seat of government of the province today.
