Geographical Location

Leek home is located in the eaves of the Jagsttal Härtsfelds that forms the easternmost part of the Swabian Alb, at about 500 meters above sea level. Stuttgart is located approximately 80 kilometers to the west, 50 km south-southeast of Ulm leek home; to Augsburg in the southeast there are around 70 kilometers.

History

Lauchheim ( = leeks limit mark, probably related to the Swabian- Franconian border) lies on an ancient trade route that ran in Jagsttal, this left knee in the Jagst leek home and led by the ream to Donauwörth. The 1686 mentioned synagogue burned in 1743 by negligence, the Jewish community was punished because of it. 1768-1770 a new synagogue was built, which renovated the church 1856/1857 with a government grant and extended. Beginning of the 20th century, it became increasingly difficult to achieve the necessary for the service number ten; no later than 1920, the synagogue was closed and the building sold in 1921. Nevertheless, the no longer used for ritual purposes house was set in November 1938 pogroms in fire. But the fire could be extinguished. After the war, used as a barn, the building was demolished in 1965.

A Jewish parochial school was first mentioned in 1829, 1849/1850 the municipality bought a new building and converted it to school with the community hall to; in the basement of a mikveh was established. The building is still preserved ( Bienne road 15, corner priest - Bestlin Street).

Museums

The local museum is in 1621 built the Upper Gate, a landmark of the city, housed. However, the nationally significant early medieval finds from Lauchheim are not there but in Alamannenmuseum Ellwangen and see in the Archaeological National Museum in Konstanz.

Structures

  • Kapfenburg stands on a promontory about 130 meters above the city. It was rebuilt over the centuries from a castle to castle and never destroyed.
