Geography

Geographical location

Tannhausen located in the upper valley of the cutting Heimer Sechta about 20 kilometers east of Ellwangen on the edge of the Ries on the part of Württemberg - Bavarian border, and specifically where the Bavarian administrative district Swabia and Franconia means adjacent.

Neighboring communities

The municipality is bordered to the north by Stödtlen, on the east by the Bavarian communities Wilburgstetten ( district of Ansbach, Middle Franconia ) and Fremdingen ( district of Donau -Ries, Schwaben), to the south by Unterschneidheim and in the far west to the city of Ellwangen.

History

Tannhausen was first mentioned in the year 1100. At that time, the local nobility, the barons of and Thannhausen, already located here and it is to this day.

In addition to the local nobility various spiritual and secular dignitaries had rights in the village. In the mediatization 1806 Tannhausen came to Bavaria and finally on January 12, 1810 the Kingdom of Württemberg, where it belonged to the district of Aalen, with which it was merged with the district reform in 1973 in the new Ostalb.

Religions

Since the Thannhäuser barons remained loyal to the Pope, the Reformation went past the place. Even today, the majority of inhabitants of the Roman Catholic denomination is a member. The few evangelical believers belong to the Church community Walxheim.

The church is the seat of the local government association Tannhausen, which also belong to yet Stödtlen and Unterschneidheim.

Economy and infrastructure

Tannhausen is not a purely residential community at the site there are more than 400 jobs. However, about 500 workers have to earn their living outside the community. But still Agriculture plays a significant role.

Established businesses

Tannhausen is the headquarters of the sun Garden Foundation Tannhausen, which was created in 1970 from the old people's home Tannhausen. The Altenheim Tannhausen was founded in 1958 as a private nursing home with 16 beds. Through several expansions, the number of care places has been increased to 1980 to 147 beds, and again reduced to 126 at a renovation in 2001/ 02. The nursing home " in the sun garden " provides about 115 jobs in full-and part-time in the municipality.

The Lipp tank founded in the end of the 1950s from a craft business. The company offers biogas plants and employs approximately 50 employees (as of 2010). The founder Xaver Lipp was honored in 1982 with the Rudolf Diesel medal, 2005, the company received the Innovation Award of Baden -Württemberg.

Education

In Tannhausen there is only a primary school and a Roman Catholic school. Secondary school and all secondary schools are located in Unterschneidheim, Bopfingen or Ellwangen.
