Le Sappey

Le Sappey is a commune in the French department of Haute- Savoie department in the Rhône-Alpes region.

Geography

Le Sappey is located on 901 m above sea level. M., about 20 km north of the town of Annecy (air line). The scattered settlement community extends a scenic location on the southeast slope of the Salève, over the Usses valley on the edge of the high plateau of Bornes.

The area of ​​13.72 km ² municipal area includes a portion in the region of Mont Salève. The eastern boundary runs along the Usses, a left tributary of the Rhône. This water flows in a wide valley to the southwest, parallel to the crest of the Salève. From the Talniederung the communal land extends westward over the relatively gently sloping hillside of Le Sappey, which is followed by the densely wooded steep slope of Salève. The northwestern border is the wide peak of Salève. Near the summit of the Grand Piton is 1,340 m above sea level. M. reached the highest elevation of Le Sappey. In the far northeast of the municipality area extends over a saddle to the Viaison, a left tributary of the Arve.

At Le Sappey addition to the actual village also includes the hamlet settlements Cornillon (740 m above sea level. M. ) in Usses Valley, Clarnant (850 m above sea level. M. ) on the eastern slope of the Salève and Chez Fauraz ( 824 m above sea level. M. ) in headwaters of the Viaison. Neighboring communities of Le Sappey are Archamps and La Muraz in the north, and Arbusigny Menthonnex -en- Bornes in the east, Vovray -en- Bornes in the south and Présilly and Beaumont in the West.

History

Le Sappey is first mentioned in the 15th century. The name dates back to the late Latin word sapinus (fir ).

Attractions

The village church in the Romanesque Revival style dates in its present form from the 19th century. On Usses there is an old mill.

Population

With 372 inhabitants (as of 1 January 2011) Le Sappey one of the small towns in the Haute-Savoie region. In the first half of the 20th century, the population increased continuously from (1901 included Le Sappey still 506 inhabitants). Since the early 1980s, however, a significant increase in population was recorded again.

Economy and infrastructure

Le Sappey is a predominantly coined by farming village today. There are also some plants of the local small business sector. Some of the working population commuters who engage in the larger towns in the area, but especially in the Geneva - Annemasse and Annecy, their work.

The village is located off the major thoroughfares something above a local road that leads from Monnetier -Mornex along the southeast foot of the Salève after Cruseilles. Further road links exist with Arbusigny and Menthonnex -en- Bornes. The nearest links to the A41 motorway is located at a distance of around 15 km.
