Lect, Jura

Lect is a commune in the French department of Jura in the Franche -Comté.

Geography

Lect is situated on 530 m above sea level. M., about 15 km north of the city Oyonnax (air line). The village is located in the Jura, on a sloping gently to the southwest slope at the foot of the Notre Dame de la Roche, on a valley of the Ain, near the dam of the Vouglan.

The area of ​​13.59 km ² municipal area (including Seeanteil ) comprises a section of the French Jura. The boundaries of the area to the west by the river Ain. This forms below Lect a vast hollow, which he leaves to the south through a constriction. Located northwest of the village is the 130 m high dam with which the Vouglan is dammed. With the damming of the lake from 1969 Talmäander the deep Gorges de l' Ain were flooded.

History

The territory of Lect was already inhabited in prehistoric times. First mentioned, however, the place is only in the 14th century. In the Middle Ages Lect belonged to the dominion of the Barony of Moirans. Together with the Franche -Comté reached the village with the Peace of Nijmegen in 1678 to France. To a field change occurred in 1822, when the previously independent Vouglans was incorporated into Lect.

Attractions

The village church of Lect was built in the 18th century. There are also two chapels, including the Notre Dame de la Roche. Also worth seeing are the 130 m high dam and the hydroelectric plant Vouglans.

Population

With 374 inhabitants (as of 1 January 2011) Lect one of the small towns in the Jura. After the population had decreased significantly in the first half of the 20th century (1896 440 persons were still counted ), reflecting the census of 1968 the temporary presence of numerous construction worker families during the construction of the dam Vouglans. Since the early 1990s, a substantial population increase was recorded again.
