Charchilla

Charchilla is a commune in the French department of Jura in the Franche -Comté.

Geography

Charchilla is located on 582 m above sea level. M., about 14 km northwest of the town of Saint- Claude ( straight line ). The village is located in the Jura, on a high plateau between the valley section of the Vouglan in the west and the forested chain of the high Jura in the east.

The area of ​​6.50 km ² municipal area includes a portion of the French Jura. The western boundary runs along the steep slope that leads on to the valley of the Ain, which is now submerged by the damming of the Vouglan and is a popular recreation area. History

The territory of Charchilla was already inhabited in Gallo- Roman times. First mentioned is the place in the 12th century. Since 1308 Charchilla was central to the rule Rognon. Together with the Franche -Comté reached the village with the Peace of Nijmegen in 1678 to France.

Population
