Lézignan-Corbières
Lézignan -Corbières is a municipality with 10,920 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2011 ) in the Aude department of southern French region of Languedoc -Roussillon. It is capital of the canton Lézignan- Corbières.
Geography
Lézignan is in the territory of the Corbières to the edge of the Minervois, about 40 meters above the sea. In the area is agriculture, mainly viticulture operated. The town has a small airport with hard surface runway (1,000 meters).
History
In the 13th century the town church Saint Félix de Gérone was built and rebuilt over and over again in the following centuries. The city planning is like a ring, but incomplete on the north side. The south side of the ring is a place in the style of Napoleon III today.
Attractions
Lézignan has a regional center function with the weekly market. There are on the west side of the city, a wine museum. A regional consumer exhibition that Promaude, takes place once a year in Lézignan- Corbières.
Twinning
Since 1969 is twinned with Lauterbach in Hesse.
