Ligerz ( bern German [ lɪg̊əɾd̥s / lɪg̊əɾts ], French Gléresse, frankoprovenzal. [ Jərɛs / jœrɛs ] ) is a village with his own municipality, civic community and Evangelical Reformed parish in the administrative district of Biel / Bienne in the Swiss canton of Bern. The parish includes also the hamlets Festi, Schernelz, Bipschal and the west of Twann Bach situated small part Twanns.
Geography
Ligerz located in the Bernese Seeland on the north shore of Lake Biel. The neighboring communities of north clockwise are starting Plateau de Diesse, Twann - Tüscherz and La Neuveville.
History
The presence of people from the Bronze Age to the Roman period is occupied by scattered finds; the neighboring Schafis a Neolithic settlement has been demonstrated. The traditional in a copy of 1441 earliest mention of the place as Lieresse goes back to the year 1178, 1218 is a Volmarus de Liegerche witnessed. The place name is probably a derivative of Franco-Provençal as a place name often occupied gllère < Latin Glarea, gravel ( floor ), shore detritus ' with the suffix -est < - ICIA.

Ligerz is 90.2 %, a German -speaking congregation. 6.4% are French.

The voter shares of the parties at the national elections of 2011 were: BDP 23.2 %, SVP 20.8 %, SP 17.6 %, FDP 12.0 %, 11.5 % glp, GPS 10.0 %, EPP 1.8 %, CVP 0.7 %, EDU 0.1%.
Traffic
The village has a railway station SBB ( Swiss Federal Railways). There is also a boat landing for the ships of the BSG. From the Ligerz Ligerz - Tessenberg railway runs to Prêles.
Arts Culture
Since 2005 will take place here annually, founded by Viktor saver and Titus Engel Ligerz Opera Workshop instead. This is to promote collaboration and artistic exchange between composers, librettists and interpreters of contemporary operas.
