List of Presidents of Pakistan
The following list gives an overview of the heads of state of Pakistan. From independence in 1947 until the entry into force of the republican constitution in 1956, Pakistan was a constitutional monarchy with the status of an independent Dominion. Formal head of state was the British monarch, who was represented by the Governor-General. Since 1956, the President, which is determined according to the constitution by an election body stands at the head of the state, which also comprised East Pakistan until 1971. However, several presidents of Pakistan by military coups came to her office and ruled dictatorially.
