History
After Madonna was doing her The Virgin Tour, she recorded the album True Blue with Patrick Leonard and Stephen Bray. Originally Live to Tell should be the soundtrack to the film Fire with Fire, but since Paramount Pictures Leonards misjudged songwriting qualities, the song was first reserved. As Madonna learned that her then husband Sean Penn played the lead role in the film At Close Range, she saw her chance to introduce the song as the soundtrack. After the director James Foley listened to a demo of the song, you approved this.
Live to Tell was released on March 26, 1986 worldwide. A number -one hit was the ballad in the United States, Canada and Italy.
Music Video
The director for music video was done by James Foley, who also took over to Papa Do not Preach and True Blue. In the plot of the video Madonna provides the song is in a dark studio, by the way one sees in fade-outs scenes from the film At Close Range.
