Lompnieu

Lompnieu [ lonjø ː ] is a town in the French department of Ain ​​, in the Rhône -Alpes.

Geography

Lompnieu lies at 670 m above sea level. Level, about 22 kilometers north of the town of Belley (air line). The farming village extends in the southeastern Bugey, a scenic location on the west slope of the Séran, in the valley of the Valromey, at the eastern foot of the plan agate.

The area of ​​11.35 km ² municipal area comprises a portion of Valromey. The Valromey forms a broad valley between two high, oriented in north-south direction Jura ridges. The eastern municipal boundary runs along the Séran, which flows into the open Talniederung the upper Valromey south. History

The territory of Lompnieu was already inhabited during the Roman period, as could be shown by the discovery of wall foundations of a Roman villa. In the Middle Ages Lompnieu belonged to the rule Château- Rouge, which was, in turn, managed by the fortress of Châteauneuf, former capital of the Valromey. In 1459 it came under the suzerainty of the Counts of Savoy. The Treaty of Lyon reached the village in 1601 to France.

Attractions

The village church of Saint- Michel was built in the 15th century in the Gothic Flamboyant style and later remodeled and enlarged several times. The destroyed after the French Revolution bell tower was rebuilt in 1827. The church has a rich interior.

Population

With 125 inhabitants (as of 1 January 2011) Lompnieu is one of the smallest municipalities of the department of Ain. After the population had decreased significantly in the first half of the 20th century, remained the population since the early 1990s to nearly constant level.

Economy and infrastructure
