Winner of the Los Angeles Film Critics Association Awards in the category Best Director ( Best Director). The American Film Critics Association is one of the first every year in early December with their awards for best film productions and film-makers of the current calendar year, known to be about a month later, in early or mid-January, awarded.

The most successful in this category were the U.S. film directors Paul Thomas Anderson, David Lynch, Sidney Lumet and Steven Spielberg, who could win the award twice each. 14 times succeeded Film Critics Association in advance of the Oscar winners present, it will ultimately happen in 2013 with the award of the Mexican Alfonso Cuaron ( Gravity ). As far the only filmmakers from New Zealand Jane Campion ( The Piano ) and 2009, the US-American Kathryn Bigelow ( The Hurt Locker - The Hurt Locker) were successful in 1993.
