History

After following the Treaty of Roskilde regions Skåne, Blekinge and Halland in Denmark were ceded to Sweden in 1658, planning for the establishment of a university in Lund started. This should serve the purpose of pushing back the Danish influence in the region. This is also evident in the seal of the University: The term ad Utrumque (about: " [ ready ] to both " ) and the lion with sword and book symbolizes the alternatives " education or struggle." Predecessor of the University of Lund was a priest College ( founded in 1438 ), which was the first higher education institution in Scandinavia. After its founding in 1666, the University was inaugurated in 1668. This is according to the Lund University Uppsala University ( founded in 1477 ), the second oldest university in Sweden.

The branch was founded in 1967 in Växjö in 1977 an independent university. In 1999 she received university status since 2010, she is part of the Linnaeus University.

A special feature of the Swedish university life not only in Lund are the fraternities ( Swedish: "Student Nationer " or " Nationer "). These associations are not to be confused with the students compounds known in Germany, since the founding years of the University they had the actual purpose to teach students from different parts of the country of Sweden an environment known to them. In the nations Lunds as the medieval traditions of Nationes live on. Today in Lund are 13 so-called "nations": Östgöta, Västgöta, Småland, Lund, Malmö, Helsingkrona, Sydskånska, Krischansta, Blekingska, Gothenburg, Halland, Kalmar and Wermlands nation. Students nations occupy a large place in the student Lund. They conduct their own cafes, restaurants and clubs ( discos ) and offer social and sporting activities. Membership in one of the nations was - also for exchange students - to July 2010 mandatory. Since membership is voluntary.

Radio AF

With AF Radio since 1982, the university has its own radio channel - be received via live stream on the Internet and two FM broadcast frequencies (FM 91.1 MHz and 99.1 MHz FM ). The Swedish university radio station produced in the House of Akademiska Föreningen, the "AF - castle " ( AF borrow ) in the old town Lunder, programs about student life in the city.
