Manuel Henrique Tavares Fernandes ( born February 5, 1986 in Lisbon ), known as Manuel Fernandes, is a Portuguese football player with Cape Verdean roots, which currently plays for Turkish club Beşiktaş Istanbul and the Portuguese national team.

Fernandes grew up in the Lisbon suburb of Amadora, where he played regularly with his friend Nani street football. He was admitted to the youth team of Benfica in 2002. His debut at Benfica he made in 2003/ 04 in the Portuguese Primeira Liga. He impressed with his good performances in the defensive midfield quickly the then coach José Antonio Camacho, and the fans. In June 2007, he took with Portugal's U -21 participated in the U21 European Championship in 2007, where he played in all games. Also at the U-21 European Championship in 2006 and the qualification for the U-21 European Championship in 2009, he took part. His debut for the senior team he had in 2004 against the Irish national football team. His first international goal he scored in a friendly match against Canada.
