Marbán Province

Marbán is a province in the southeastern part of the Beni Department in the South American Andes State of Bolivia.

Location

The province is one of eight provinces in the department of Beni. It is bordered to the west by the province Moxos, on the south by the Department of Cochabamba, on the east by the department of Santa Cruz, and to the north by the province of Cercado.

The province extends approximately between 14 ° 49 'and 16 ° 13' south latitude and 63 ° 20 ' and 65 ° 22 ' west longitude, its extent from east to west is 280 kilometers from north to south is also up to 280 kilometers.

Population

The population of the province Marbán has risen in the past two decades by more than a third:

51.7 percent of the population are younger than 15 years, the literacy rate in the province is 77.2 percent.

99.2 percent of the population speak Spanish, Quechua 0.9 percent, 0.6 percent Guaraní, Aymara 0.3 percent, and 8.0 percent other indigenous languages. (1992)

Structure

The Marbán province is divided into the following two municipios ( counties ):

  • The municipality of Loreto ( 6751 km ²) in the western part of the province - 3,787 inhabitants - 0.6 inhabitants / km ²
  • The municipality of San Andrés ( 9958 km ²) in the eastern part of the province - 12,540 inhabitants - 1.3 inhabitants / km ²
