Marian Savu

Marian Savu ( born October 11, 1972 in Pietrosani, county Teleorman ) is a former Romanian football player. The striker played a total of 257 games in the Romanian Divizia A, the Ukrainian Premjer - Liha and the Hungarian Nemzeti National Championship. In the season 1999/2000 he was Romanian scorer.

Career

Savu came into the squad 's first team Flacara Moreni, which at the time in the highest Romanian football league, the Divizia A, played in 1989. There, however, he came in his first year is yet to play and could not therefore avoid relegation at the end of the season. After the season, he joined the Romanian giants Dinamo Bucharest.

When reigning champions to Savu could not prevail in the season 1990/91 and only came up with six inserts. He was then loaned out to his former club, who played in Divizia B. During the winter break 1992/93 Dinamo brought him back. His breakthrough Savu in the 1993/94 season, when he was able to achieve twelve hits and his club thus secured qualification for the UEFA Cup. Nevertheless, he was at the beginning of the following season on loan again - this time to the league rivals FC Braşov. Even after half a year he returned to Dinamo and took his team again to third place behind Steaua Bucharest and FC Universitatea Craiova.

At the beginning of 1996 left Savu Dinamo and moved to local rivals Rapid Bucharest. After the season he joined the FC Naţional Bucharest. In the 1996/97 season he was part of the permanent staff of his new club. He secured the club to the runner-up and pulled the cup final, where he did not, however, was used. In the first round in 1997/98 he managed only five appearances and was loaned for the rest of the season at local rivals Sportul Studenţesc. Sportul dismounted from the Divizia A at the end of the season.

After his return to FC Naţional Savu experienced the most successful for him as a striker of his career. Although his club could be placed only in the middle of the league, he came in the 1998/99 season to 19 goals and was able to provide this value in the following season with 20 goals, which earned him the top scorer. Savu benefited this season but believes that his biggest rival Adrian Mutu was changed during the winter break abroad and could not improve his goal for 18 in the second half.

This success foreign clubs were aware of Savu, so that the Ukrainian club Shakhtar Donetsk took him in 2000 under contract. There he could not prevail, and left the club after half a year to league rivals Metalurh Donetsk, where he also rarely was used. He returned in 2001 back to FC Naţional, but could not build on its previous achievements. Although he was again runner-up, but switched after only one season to AEL Limassol in Cyprus.

Also on Cyprus remained Savu just one year and joined in 2003 the Hungarian first division club Videoton FC. After one season he returned a third time to FC Naţional, but could rarely put his skills to the test. In 2006 he moved to Petrolul Ploiesti in the Liga II, where he was a year later ended his career.
