Mark Grimmette

Mark Grimmette ( born January 23, 1971 in Ann Arbor, Michigan ) is a retired American luger and current toboggan trainer.

Mark Grimmette belongs with his partner Brian Martin of the most successful doubles in the sport of luge since the mid- 1990s. They are to be regarded as the successor of the U.S. world-class duo Chris Thorpe and Gordy Sheer. Grimmette began at the age of 14 years with the sledding, as a toboggan run was built in Muskegon. 59 times in international competitions they could achieve podium finishes (18 x Siege - 17 x Second Places - 24 x Placed third ). Her accomplishments include winning the bronze medal at the 1998 Olympic Winter Games in Nagano and the silver medal at the 2002 Winter Olympics in Salt Lake City. In 2006, the duo did not come to the finish. At the World Championships in 2004 and 2005, they won silver with the team bronze in 2001. When they won the double in 1999, 2000, 2004, 2005 and 2007 the bronze medal. The overall World Cup they won in the seasons 1997/1998, 1998/1999 and 2002/2003, third place, they were 1999/2000. Nine World Cup races to win the double. In addition, from 1998 to 2002 and 2005, five national championships in the U.S..

At the opening ceremony of the Olympic Games from 2002 Mark Grimmette was one of the eight athletes who carried the banner of the World Trade Center to the stadium. At the 2006 Games he was the oldest athlete of the U.S. team. After his playing career coach Martin was the U.S. federation.
