Thomas Schwab

Thomas Schwab ( born April 20, 1962 in Salzberg, today part of Berchtesgaden ) is a former luger, national coach of the luger and now Director General of the Bobsleigh and Luge Federation of Germany (BSD ).

During his time in Thomas Schwab was formed together with Wolfgang Staudinger a world-class doubles. A highlight of the career was the participation in the Olympic Winter Games in Calgary in 1988, where the double behind the DDR doubles Jörg Hoffmann / Jochen Pietzsch and Stefan Krausse / Jan Behrendt third. In the same year both were in Koenigssee European champion and German champion. The year before they won at the World Championships in Igls bronze behind Hoffmann / Pietzsch and Stefan Ilsanker / Georg Hackl. In the 1986/87 season they also won the overall World Cup the doubles before Ilsanker / Hackl and Hansjörg Raffl / Norbert Huber. Four times was won by the duo World Cup.

After his playing career Schwab graduated from the Academy coach Cologne Diploma in coach, which he completed in 1991. In 1995, he broke Sepp Lenz from the Luge national coach. Under his leadership, were won six of nine possible Olympic titles and a total of 14 retrieved from a possible 24 Olympic medals. Overall, his athletes won at Olympic Games, World and European Championships 50x gold, 43 silver and 23 bronze medals.
