Martina Moravcová

Martina Moravcová ( born January 16, 1976 in Piešťany ) is a former Slovak swimmer.

Career

Moravcová is the most successful swimmer in swimming history of their country. She swims from 50 m to 200 m in the styles of freestyle and butterfly. Your first major international competition in 1992, she contested at the Olympic Games in Barcelona, nor for the team of Czechoslovakia. However, you do not even make it past the preliminary heats. However, the following year at the European Swimming Championships 1993 in Sheffield she won her first international medal: Silver 100m freestyle.

In 1996 she came with higher expectations for the Olympic Games to Atlanta, but were disappointed because their best finish was a ninth place on 200 m freestyle. A year later at the European Swimming Championships in Seville in 1997, she managed finally their international breakthrough. She won three silver medals over 100m butterfly, 100m freestyle and 200m individual medley. About 200 m freestyle, she finished fourth.

With the World Swimming Championships in 1998 in Perth, Australia, she won two silver medals over 100m and 200m freestyle and a bronze in the 200m individual medley. Already she was the outstanding athlete of their country. The positive experiences in Australia were then surpassed in 2000 with her ​​third Olympic Games in Sydney: With two silver medals over 100m butterfly and 200m freestyle she was the first swimmer in Slovakia, which was able to win Olympic medals. Earlier in the same year, she was able to win in Helsinki at the European Championships in 2000 their first title: the gold medal in the 100 m butterfly. This track could defend in Berlin in 2002.

The success tore off not even ahead of their fourth Olympics: 2003, she was in Barcelona vice-world champion in the 200m freestyle and won the bronze medal over 100 m butterfly. In preparation for the 2004 Olympic Games in Athens, she managed in Madrid hat-trick as European champion in the 100 m butterfly. In Athens, she then was able to reach over 100m butterfly and 100m freestyle finals, but it was only sixth and seventh.

With the World Swimming Championships in 2005 in Montréal reached Martina Moravcová seventh place on 100 m butterfly. About this track, she won the European Championships 2006 in Budapest silver.

In December 2012, Moravcová finished her sporting career.

Martina Moravcová studied Economics in Bratislava and at Southern Methodist University in Dallas, Texas, where she lives now married and has a daughter named Karolina (2010 born ). She completed her studies in 1998.
