Meelste is a village (Estonian küla ) in the rural community Kõrgessaare ( Kõrgessaare vald ). It is the second largest Estonian island of Hiiumaa ( German Dagö ).

Description and History

Meelste ( German Meelete ) has two inhabitants ( 31 December 2011). The village was first mentioned in records in 1525 under the name Melis.

The town is located on the peninsula Tahkuna ( Tahkuna pool saar ) on the Baltic coast. He has the Bay of Meelste ( Meelste Laht ) given its name. South of the village flows the brook Meelste ( Meelste oja ) into the sea.

The island's capital Kärdla ( Kertel ) is seven miles. In the summer months Meelste is a popular destination for bathers.
