Melvin Stewart

Melvin Stewart ( born November 18, 1968 in Gastonia, North Carolina ) is a retired American swimmer.

With the World Swimming Championships in 1991 in Perth, he won the 200 m butterfly his first major title. In the final, he won ahead of Germany's Michael Gross. With the 4 x 200 meter freestyle relay he finished second behind the German squadron.

In Barcelona he was. During the 1992 Summer Olympics, both Olympic champion in the 200 m butterfly and with the 4 x 100 meter medley relay He also won bronze in the 4 x 200 meter freestyle relay.

He held from 1991 to 1995 the world record for the 200 m butterfly. In 2002 he was inducted into the Hall of Fame of the international swimming sport.
