Michael Glawogger

Michael Glawogger ( born December 3, 1959 in Graz) is an Austrian film director, screenwriter and cinematographer.

Life and work

Glawogger graduated from the Academic Gymnasium in Graz with the matriculation examination in 1978. He attended from 1981 to 1982, the San Francisco Arts Institute and then studied from 1983 to 1989 at the Vienna Film Academy.

Similar to Ulrich Seidl, with whom he has collaborated on several occasions, he often uses the form of the ( semi-) documentary feature film. His two most successful works, Megacities and Workingman's Death, have almost all continents scattered sites and thematize among other social aspects of globalization.

The drama had Slumming in February 2006 at the International Film Festival premiere. The Comedy Contact High, whose main characters have already been shown in slugs, was premiered in March 2009 at the diagonal in Graz. With Whores' Glory Glawogger turned further documentation that was released in 2011. In the film he treats the subject of prostitution, which he has to some extent been touched on in his previous documentaries.
