Miika Elomo

Miika Elomo (* April 21, 1977 in Turku ) is a retired Finnish professional ice hockey player who played in his playing days from 1994 to 2005 among others for the Washington Capitals in the National Hockey League. His younger brother Teemu is also a professional hockey player.

Career

Miika Elomo began his career as a hockey player in his hometown in the junior section of TPS Turku for the first team to 1996 he was active from 1994 in the SM- liiga. During the same period he was mainly used as Players out on loan for TPS ' city neighbors Kiekko - 67 in the second class I divisioona used. In addition, he was selected in the NHL Entry Draft in 1995 in the first round than a total of 23 players from the Washington Capitals. For their farm team, the Portland Pirates of the American Hockey League, scored the winger in the 1996/97 season in 52 games 17 points scorer, eight gates. In the following season in his first 33 AHL appearances for Portland, he scored only one goal and an assist each, after which he decided to middle of the season in his Finnish homeland back. There he was with his new club HIFK Helsinki at first Finnish Champion. He repeated in the 1998/99 season with his hometown club TPS Turku this success.

In the summer of 1999 Elomo returned to North America. There he was able to increase with the Portland Pirates on 21 goals and 14 assists in 59 games in the AHL. As a reward for his good performances he was in the 1999/2000 season his debut in the National Hockey League pass for the Washington Capitals, where he gave an assist in two games. On 24 June 2000 he was transferred together with a fourth- round option for the NHL Entry Draft in exchange for a 2000 second-round vote for the same Draft to the Calgary Flames. Despite good performance in the training camp, he was assigned by Calgary only in their AHL farm team. For the Saint John Flames, he scored in the 2000 /01 season in 78 games 33 points scorer, of which ten goals. The 2001/02 season began the U18 European Junior Champion 1995 TPS Turku, but moved after only 24 games for the Espoo Blues in which he held until his early career end after the 2004/ 05 season at the age of 28 years stood on the ice.

Internationally

For Finland Elomo participated in the U18 European Junior Championships in 1994 and 1995, as well as the U20 World Junior Championships in 1995 and 1996 in part. In the U18 European Championship in 1995 he won the gold medal with his team.
