Mike Blair

Michael Robert Leighton Blair ( born April 20, 1981 in Edinburgh) is a Scottish rugby union player who is active for Edinburgh and the Scottish national team. He plays the position of scrum half.

Blair was in 2002 against Canada, his debut for Scotland and scored the same a try. He was part of the squad for the World Cup 2003 and it came to a bet against the United States. In November 2004, he replaced the historic 100:8 victory against Japan and was able to make an attempt to win again. With the Six Nations 2006, he was one of the outstanding players of the tournament and helped the Scots that both France and England beat at home in Murrayfield Stadium. The following year, he could not participate due to an injury at this tournament, but was in time for the World Cup fit again and was able to participate in four of five games.

When Blair acted as captain for the Six Nations 2008 Jason White, as it turned out due to injury, he became the 108th captain of the Scottish national team in their history. He was captain in the games against Ireland, England and Italy and won with the team the Calcutta Cup with a 15-9 over the English national team. Also during the tour to Argentina, he held this office and was also the 25th player with 50 international caps for Scotland. Due to its excellent performance, he was nominated by the International Rugby Board player of the year. Next to him, Daniel Carter, Ryan Jones, Sergio Parisse and Shane Williams had been proposed for this award, which Williams won the election.

Blair was due to its performance in recent years as a contender for the scrum half positions at the upcoming tour of the British and Irish Lions. Due to its shape weakness in the Six Nations in 2009 but was not initially considered for the squad. After Tomás O'Leary injured in the run, he was re-nominated.
